Mining the Connections is an international and multidisciplinary conference gathering academic researchers, students, government representatives, Indigenous and non-indigenous community members, NGOs and mining companies to discuss mining developments and their impacts. The hybrid conference was hosted in Quebec City, Canada, on April 25-27.

Gertrude Saxinger presented “Positionalities between activism and research with Indigenous communities in extractive industries contexts.” She discussed the complexity of researchers’ positionalities in studying mining and petroleum extraction on Indigenous lands. The presentation illustrated how conflicts and power relations have been studied in the North through artistic engagement and activist methods. The talk covered examples from the Yukon to Siberia.
