During the 2022-2023 academic year, the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ College of Rural and Community Development hosted a monthly speakers series focused on community-based research, Indigenous knowledge in academia, and best practices for ethical research. On November 9, 2022, Charleen Fisher and Nina Döring gave a virtual presentation about the CO-CREATE Collaborative and their recently published paper in Environmental Research Letters (ERL): Improving the relationships between Indigenous rights holders and researchers in the Arctic: An invitation for change in funding and collaboration.

During the presentation, Charleen Fisher shared about her research journey, Gwich’in pedagogy, and Nina Döring talked about the development of the CO-CREATE Collaborative and the experience of jointly writing the ERL paper. Finally, they shared the key recommendations for improving funding and collaboration for co-creative work with Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners.
