Arctic Frontiers is an annual international and multidisciplinary conference in Tromsø, which gathers scientists, businesses, policymakers and representatives of local and Indigenous Peoples for holistic discussions about the future of the Arctic region. The 2022 theme was ‘Pathways,’ reflecting on the choices the Arctic is facing when addressing pressing global challenges.

CO-CREATE contributors co-developed a presentation titled Improving the relationships between researchers and Indigenous rights holders in the Arctic – What needs to change in funding? Nina Döring presented the work at the Arctic Frontiers conference, highlighting that to effectively address the complex challenges in the Arctic, collaboration between Indigenous rights holders and researchers is crucial, requiring transdisciplinary approaches. The success of such collaborations hinges on rethinking funding structures to accommodate the unique requirements of co-creative research projects, acknowledging and rectifying colonial legacies and power imbalances.
